Abstract for “A Childhood on Hungry Hill”

During the author’s young days in the 1930s, Farnham children called those like her who lived in Hale Hungry Hillies or Haleites.  She recalls happy times from her childhood in Hale, or Hungry Hill, as the area was then more commonly called.

Today only the hill itself overlooking Aldershot is known by that name.  Many happenings which she describes were probably experienced by children living in other outlying villages around Farnham.

The Hale History Project has been gathering reminiscences, both written and aural, about local social history.  A  good many copies of the book have been sold at its coffee mornings.
