Abstract
for “A Rose in Picardy”
Prior to her death the author
was a member of the Society, which published
extracts from her diary in 1984. It
was written mostly in pencil and often by
the light of a hurricane lamp in a bell
tent. We read of the reactions, mental,
emotional, and physical, of a young woman
in her early twenties during the years 1916-18
when she was a VAD ( Voluntary Aid Detachment
) nurse serving with the army at Bramshott
( Hants ) and then in France.
The account is somewhat harrowing in parts,
but such was the nature of the War to end
all Wars.
The book has 43 pages and a map.
